Rep. Thinlay Chukki calls on US Ambassador Michele Taylor, Thanks US for Resolve Tibet Act
On 24 July 2024, Representative Thinlay Chukki called on Her Excellency Michele Taylor, the United States ambassador to the United Nations Human Rights Council, to convey gratitude of the Tibetans for the enactment of the “Resolve Tibet Act” and also to brief the Ambassador about the ongoing human rights situation in Tibet.
The Representative, accompanied by the entire staff of the Tibet Bureau- Geneva, met with the US Permanent Representative to the UN Human Rights Council Ambassador Michele Taylor and thanked the US Government, Congress and the people for their unprecedented support towards a peaceful resolution of the China-Tibet conflict and for systemic support towards countering the Government of the People’s Republic of China’s disinformation about Tibet.
While thanking the US on behalf of the Tibetan communities based in Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Germany, Austria, Italy, Czech Republic and Hungary, Representative Thinlay noted that “the Tibetans across Central and Eastern Europe are celebrating and thanking the US for its longstanding support to Tibetan movement. The Resolve Tibet Act, which is a watershed moment in the history of the Tibetan freedom movement, will usher in renewed energy and inspiration for Tibetans to continue their fight for justice and to never give up.”
Welcoming the delegation at her residence, Ambassador Michele Taylor assured that she would relay the Tibetans’ message of gratitude to President Biden and noted that “the Act provides a systemic framework for advancing the rights of Tibetan people. This is just the beginning of a long path ahead, and the US Government will always support the Tibetan people’s movement for justice and right to freedom.” The Ambassador also enquired about the health of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and wished him a speedy recovery.
The Representative also briefed the Ambassador on the current situation in Tibet and discussed future plans for the UN Human Rights Council. She was accompanied by her staff: UN Advocacy Officer Phuntsok Topgyal, Accounts head Tenzin Choesang, and Europe Chinese Liaison Officer Sangjey Kep.
