His Holiness the Dalai Lama Safely Arrives in Zurich, Switzerland
His Holiness the Dalai Lama safely arrived at the Zurich Airport on 23 August 2024 to a warm welcome reception from around 1,200 Tibetans and well-wishers in Switzerland after a two-month-long sojourn in the United States for His knee treatment and recovery.
Representative Thinley Chukki from the Tibet Bureau, along with Mario Fehr, the representative of Zurich cantonal government; Yashbir Singh, the Government of India’s Liaison Officer for His Holiness the Dalai Lama; Naveen Hooda, secretary of the Indian Embassy in Bern; and Tenzin Sewo, Executive Director of the Gaden Phodrang Foundation of the Dalai Lama, joined the reception.
Likewise, a large crowd outside the Hilton Zurich Airport Hotel, including the Abbot of the Rikon monastery, Swiss-based Tibetan lamas and tulkus, some incumbent and former members of the Tibetan Parliament in exile, representatives from Tibetan NGOs, and president and executive members of the Tibetan Association, extended their welcomes to His Holiness at the hotel upon His Holiness’ arrival there from the airport.
