Tibetan Community of Switzerland and Liechtenstein Holds 2nd General Meeting of Tibetan Language School Teachers and Directors
The second general meeting of Principals/Directors and teachers of Tibetan language schools under the jurisdiction of the Tibetan community in Switzerland and Liechtenstein (TCSL) was held in Oerlikon, Zurich, on 12 October 2024.
Karma Choekyi, the president of TCSL, delivered a welcome address and introduced the agendas of the meeting at the outset.
In her speech, the chief guest from the Tibet Bureau in Geneva, Tenzin Choesang, spoke about the Education Department’s development of curricula for Tibetan language schools abroad and provided an overview of the current status of Tibetan language schools under TCSL. To ensure the continued progress of these schools, Tenzin Choesang called for everyone’s efforts to increase student enrolment and ensure the schools’ ongoing effectiveness.
Chokgo Dorjee, a Tibetan language instructor from the Aargau Tibetan language school, introduced each of the textbooks prepared by the Department of Education for elementary classes I to IV. Following this, the attendees reviewed the textbooks in groups and discussed necessary alterations. With only one abstention, the gathering unanimously approved the integration of these elementary textbooks into the curricula of Tibetan language schools, after which the textbooks were distributed.
An education council comprising five members was also established under the oversight of President Karma Choekyi.
Before concluding, the gathering further exchanged suggestions for improving the language competitions among schools in the future based on past experiences.
