CTA President delivers keynote address at Chinese Outreach Forum and Training

Dharamshala: President Dr. Lobsang Sangay, Central Tibetan Administration delivered the keynote address at Chinese Outreach Forum and Training today at Tibetan Administrative Training and Welfare Society.

The programme commenced with President Dr. Lobsang Sangay, Central Tibetan Administration greetings to all the participants who hailed from the various part of the country.

President Dr. Lobsang Sangay opened his remarks with the significance and aim of this workshop by expressing that, “the aim of this workshop is to reach the Chinese around the world who are not aware of the history of Tibet. He also added that Tibetan should try to bring up more awareness about Tibet’s situation to the world. President Dr. Sangay further stated that China is drawing attention from people around the world since they are getting into more power the impacting is more on the situation of the Tibet.”

He also talked about China’s “Market economic status” and “One Belt One Road” which he specified had actually started from 2009, however, many were unaware. He stated that reading Chinese news is crucially important for improving awareness of China’s policy. The main focus of Dr. Sangay’s talk was the importance of dialogue with Chinese people to resolve the issue of Tibet.

“Central Tibetan Administration aims to mainstreaming Chinese outreach efforts and to this end, the China Desk of DIIR has convened Five ‘Annual Chinese Liason Officers Meeting and workshop,” he said.

“Starting a dialogue with Chinese people is most helpful to resolve a Tibet issue. It is our purpose to reach the Chinese around the world and give them an idea about the Tibet’s history, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Middle Way Approach and CTA’s Five Fifty Vision.”

President Dr. Sangay also said that the mission of this annual meeting is to strengthen the work and coordination among Liaison officers and Chinese speaking Tibetan students across the world. The meeting cum training aims to keep informed of the current situation inside Tibet.

45 Tibetan students and professionals from 12 different countries, who are skilled in the Chinese language and in the field of Chinese studies are taking part in the meeting.

President Dr. Lobsang Sangay offered a vote of thanks to all participants and expressed his high hopes from the session.

Expert speaker Dr. Ding Yifu talked about the Chinese perspective on Tibet and Tibetan struggle. Mainly he talked about the middle way policy and stated the importance of a dialogue between Tibetans and Chinese.

Sonam Norbu Dagpo, DIIR secretary delivered the welcome remarks.

The session will continue for four days till 25 October. The programme will include four plenary sessions on 1. His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s commitments 2. Sino-Tibet ties since ancient times to present 3. Tibet’s environment and CTA’s Five Fifty Vision 4. Chinese Outreach.

The four-day meeting is being organised by China Desk, Department of Information and International Relations, CTA.
