The President of Central Tibetan Administration Dr. Lobsang Sangay delivered the Presential Statement on the 61st Commemoration of Tibetan National Uprising Day in Dharamshala, the capital of the Central Tibetan Administration.
The entire statement is available in Tibetan and English. The Tibet Bureau Geneva with the support from various Tibet Support Groups has translated the entire statement in Czech, French, German and Italian languages.
On this day, thousands of Tibetans stood up peacefully protesting against the illegal invasion and occupation of Tibet by the People’s Republic of China (PRC) in 1959. However, the People’s Liberation Army of the PRC crushed the demonstration with guns and artilleries killing hundreds and thousands of Tibetans. Despite the trying situations inside Tibet, the Tibetans have shown unparalleled resilience and have continued to preserve the distinct identity and culture of Tibet. Highlighting the deplorable situation in Tibet, President Dr. Sangay urged the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to visit Tibet during her visit to China to evaluate the “deteriorating human rights situation in Tibet.”
Emphasizing the immeasurable kindness and blessings bestowed by His Holiness the Dalai Lama on the Tibetans, President Dr. Sangay declared that the Year-2020 will be dedicated to express gratitude towards His Holiness as the “Thank You, Dalai Lama” year to “celebrate His Holiness’ legacy and his four commitments.”
President Dr. Sangay also thanked “the great nation and people of India, the governments, the Parliaments, the Tibet Support Groups across the world, individuals and organizations who support the just cause of Tibet and stand in solidarity with the Tibetan people in this critical time and urged all to be stand with Tibetans till the day “human rights and justice prevail in Tibet.”
