Swiss Parliamentary Group for Tibet Meets to Discuss Future Plans

Bern, Switzerland: The Members of the Swiss Parliamentary Group for Tibet met in Bern yesterday on the sidelines of the winter session of the Parliament which began on 30 November 2020 and will continue till 18 December 2020. The meeting was conducted with strict adherence to the covid-19 regulations.

Co-President of the Parliamentary Group Hon’ble Fabian Molina chaired the meeting and Hon’ble Martina Munz, Hon’ble Nicolas Walder, Hon’ble Prisca Birrer-Heimo and Hon’ble Martina Geissbühler attended.

Representative Chhimey Rigzen and Thinlay Chukki from Tibet Bureau Geneva, Jampa Samdho Tsering, Member of Tibetan Parliament in Exile from Europe, and the President of the Swiss Tibetan Friendship Association Thomas Büchli participated in the meeting.

A range of issues was discussed in the meeting including the much anticipated Swiss foreign strategy on China, the difficult situation inside Tibet including the violation of religious freedom of Tibetans, the situation of the Tibetans without papers and struggling under the asylum process in Switzerland. The parliamentarians assured continued support to Tibetans and to raise voice on the deplorable human rights situation in Tibet.

The meeting of the parliamentary group will be held during the summer session of the Parliament in 2021.
