86th Birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama Celebration in Central and Eastern Europe

Tibetan community of Switzerland and Liechtenstein celebrated the 86th birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama with a religious ceremony at Tibet Institute Rikon.

 

Geneva: Nobel peace laureate His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet turned 86 on Tuesday, 6 July. Global leaders, public figures, and followers across the world wished the global icon of peace to live long and expressed their gratitude for his message of peace, hope, and compassion. The global citizens have yet again proven the spiritual leader of Tibet His Holiness the Dalai Lama is much more than just a “simple Buddhist monk”.

Tibetans, supporters, and admirers in the Central and Eastern European countries celebrated the 86th birth anniversary of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and prayed for his continued presence to spread love, peace, and happiness across the world.

Tibetan Community of Switzerland and Liechtenstein celebrated the 86th birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama with a ceremony offering prayers for His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s long life at Tibet Institute Rikon. Representative Chhimey Rigzen of the Tibet Bureau Geneva addressed the gathering and delivered Kashag’s statement on the occasion. The president of the Tibetan Community Karma Choekyi and president of Tibet Institute Rikon Karma Dolma Lobsang addressed the occasion as well.

Italian lawmakers Hon’ble senator Roberto Rampi and Hon’ble Luciano Nobili, president of Italian Intergroup Parliamentarians for Tibet, expressed warm greetings on the occasion of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s 86th birthday. In his message, Senator Rampi said “the teachings of peace and reconciliation by an extraordinary living civil and religious figure” His Holiness the Dalai Lama has been the source of inspiration for the entire humanity.

Furthermore, on behalf of Italian Intergroup Parliamentarians for Tibet, in his video message, Hon’ble Luciano Nobili expressed his happiness of seeing Holiness the Dalai Lama’s healthy face and said the “voice, strength and vision” of His Holiness the Dalai Lama will continue to inspire many people, not only “spiritually”, but also “politically” across the world. Hon’ble Nobili wished for having more opportunity in hearing His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s wisdom and hoped the “struggle for liberty, rights in Tibet” and freedom for Tibetan people will be achieved. Various Tibetan Buddhist Centers in Italy held prayer ceremonies for His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s long life.

Celebrating the auspicious occasion, the Tibetan community in Italy embarked on gifting four books authored by His Holiness the Dalai Lama to libraries in Italy under the umbrella of a book distribution project initiated by the Tibet Bureau Geneva. As part of the ‘Thank You His Holiness’ program, the Bureau launched the distribution of four books authored by His Holiness the Dalai Lama to 113 libraries in Central and Eastern European countries earlier this year.

In Hungary, Mayor of Budapest district IX and deputy mayor of district I hoisted Tibetan national flags on town halls as a gesture of their respect and greetings on the occasion of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s 86th birthday.

Deputy Mayor Ference Garencsér hoisted the Tibetan national flag on his office building as a “small gesture to 14th Dalai Lama, an honorary citizen of Budapest” and posted birthday greetings to His Holiness the Dalai Lama via social media platform. His Holiness the Dalai Lama was awarded Budapest’s Honorary Citizenship award in 2010.

Similarly, Mayor of Budapest district IX Krisztina Baranyi hoisted the Tibetan National flag on the 86th birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Tibetan Association of Czech Republic organized a football tennis tournament to celebrate the 86th birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. “The objective of the tournament was to express gratitude and thank the people of Czech Republic for their support to His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan people for all these years,” said the President of the association.
