Representative Thinlay Chukki of the Tibet Bureau in Geneva highlighted the journey of Tibetans into exile and the milestone democratization of the exiled Tibetan community under the visionary leadership of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in a two-day conference titled “Forever Tibet” in Milan, Italy.
The two-day conference was organised by the Italian Buddhist Union in cooperation with the Italy-Tibet Association, Gaden Phodrang Foundation of Dalai Lama, and the International Campaign for Tibet and Tibetan Community in Italy from 12-13 November 2022.
The conference featured distinguished speakers, including Kasur Jetsun Pema, amongst others. Kasur Jetsun Pema shared the early account of exile’s journey to look after the welfare of Tibetan children, including ensuring access to education as envisioned by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. She further shared her “shock(ing)” observation of the situation of Tibetans in Tibet during the visit to Tibet as a Fact-Finding Delegation to Tibet in the 1980s.
Speaking at the conference for a session titled “The Political Question”, along with Former envoy of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and advisor of CTA’s Permanent Strategy Committee Kelsang Gyaltsen, Representative Thinlay Chukki presented the evolution of full-fledged democratic administration of the Tibetan exiled community resulting from the far signed compassionate leadership of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. While giving an overview of the situation in Tibet, Representative Thinlay Chukki said relentless persecution of Tibetans and unabated repression in Tibet has led to cycles of unrest in Tibet, including tragic acts of self-immolation protests by over 157 Tibetans in Tibet since 2009.
The highlight of the conference includes the Italian premiere of a feature documentary uncovering the untold story of His Holiness the Dalai Lama by Jean-Paul Martinez, titled Never Forget Tibet: The Dalai Lama’s untold Story.
The conference aimed to discuss and deliberate educational, environmental and political issues in contemporary Tibet, said the organizer of the conference.
