Chinese Liaison Officer Sangay Kyab Meets with Taiwanese Representative to Germany Dr Jhy-Wey Shieh
Sangay Kyab, the Chinese Liaison Officer of the Office of Tibet in Geneva, attended a dinner reception at the invitation of the Taiwanese Representative Office in Berlin and met with Dr Jhy-Wey Shieh, the Taiwanese Representative to Germany, on 23 October 2024.
Other members of Tibet’s alliances representing Hong Kongers, Mongolians, Uyghurs, and Chinese pro-democracy activists also attended the dinner.
During an engaging discussion with Representative Dr Jhy-Wey Shieh, Chinese Liaison Officer Sangay Kyab, who had travelled to Berlin to attend a conference the following day alongside other dinner guests, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Taiwanese people and government for their unwavering support to Tibetans. In response, the Taiwanese Representative reaffirmed his commitment to providing continued assistance to Tibetans and shared his pleasure over the meeting. The conversation also delved into the pressing challenges faced by Tibetans under CPC rule, including China’s policy of sinicising Tibetan identity. In addition, Sangay Kyab apprised about the guidance from the Kashag (Cabinet) of the Central Tibetan Administration, encouraging Chinese Liaison Officers to collaborate in fostering united actions among Tibetans, Chinese, Taiwanese, Mongolians, and Hong Kongers to counter CPC repression. Likewise, Representative Dr Jhy-Wey Shieh underscored the importance and potential of collective efforts among these key allies.
On 24 October, a conference among these key alliances was scheduled to be held in Berlin to discuss CPC’s 75 years of rule and Democracy in China.
Representative Kelsang Gyaltsen Bawa of the Office of Tibet in Taipei will also attend this conference virtually.
