Tibetan Parliament Advocates Tibet in Switzerland, Meets Minister of Security Mario Fehr of Zurich Council
A Tibetan Parliamentary delegation consisting of MP Geshe Atong Rinchen Gyaltsen, MP Lobsang Gyatso Sither, and MP Tenzin Choezin continued their Euope Tibet advocacy in Switzerland. On 25 October 2024, the delegation met with Mario Fehr, Minister of Security of Zurich Council, at his office. They expressed gratitude on behalf of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile for his support during His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s recent visit to Zurich and for his long-standing support for Tibet and the Tibetan people.
During the meeting, the MPs briefed the Minister about the current critical situation inside Tibet, including how the Chinese Communist government is increasingly implementing policies to eliminate Tibetan religion, culture, language, and identity. They presented an appeal letter signed by the Speaker of the Tibetan Parliament along with a souvenir from the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile. Minister Fehr spoke about his continuous connection with Tibetans since 1988.
In the afternoon, the Parliamentary delegation held a meeting at the Tibetan Community of Switzerland & Liechtenstein office with members of the community, Tibet support groups, religious organizations, and NGO representatives. They discussed various organizational activities, ways to strengthen Tibet advocacy through collective effort, and the delegation’s current advocacy objectives. The MPs emphasized the importance of unity in the Tibetan struggle and answered questions from the attendees.
The meeting was also attended by Thinlay Chukki, Representative of the Tibet Bureau Geneva, and Phuntsok Topgyal, UN Advocacy Officer of the Tibet Bureau.
