Tibetan Community of Switzerland and Liechtenstein Commemorates 40th Anniversary of His Holiness’ First Kalachakra Empowerment at Rikon Monastery
On 30 August 2025, Chinese Liaison Officer Sangay Kyab, representing the Tibet Bureau in Geneva, attended the commemoration of the 40th anniversary of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s bestowal of the Kalachakra empowerment at the Tibet Institute Rikon in Switzerland. The original empowerment, held in 1985, marked the first extensive Buddhist teaching ever organised outside the Himalayan region.
The commemorative event was organised by the Tibetan Community of Switzerland and Liechtenstein (TCSL) and was attended by the Abbot of the Tibet Institute Rikon, former Tibetan parliamentarians, the President and Vice President of TCSL, representatives of local Tibetan civil society organisations, and members of the community.
As part of the commemoration, prayers were offered for the long life of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Additionally, the Abbot of the Tibet Institute Rikon delivered a teaching on the benefits and significance of the Kalachakra empowerment.
