Austria Tibetan Community Leads Peaceful Rally to Mark One Month Since Pawo Lobga Rangzen’s Passing
Tibetan communities and supporters around the world are organising a global day of action to commemorate Pawo Lobga Rangzen, who carried out a self-immolation on 2 July 2026, in front of the United Nations Headquarters in New York, United States.
The action has drawn attention from Tibetan communities, human rights advocates, and supporters worldwide, who are using this occasion to raise awareness about the ongoing concerns surrounding human rights, cultural preservation, and the future of the Tibetan people.
On 2 August 2026 marks one month since the passing of Pawo Lobga Rangzen. In remembrance, Tibetan communities and solidarity groups in different parts of the world are organising peaceful gatherings, demonstrations, and awareness activities.
In Vienna, Austria, a joint peaceful protest rally is being organised by the Tibetan Community, Voluntary Tibet Advocacy Group (VTAG), Save Tibet, Students for a Free Tibet (SFT), and Friends of Tibet.
The rally will begin in front of the Chinese Embassy and proceed towards Stephansplatz. Participants are expected to gather to express their solidarity and to call for greater international attention to the human rights situation in Tibet.
The organisers stated that the demonstration aims to provide a platform for Tibetans and supporters to peacefully express their concerns, remember the sacrifice of Pawo Lobga Rangzen, and highlight issues related to human rights, religious freedom, cultural identity, and the preservation of Tibetan heritage.
The event is also intended to encourage governments, international organisations, and the global community to continue monitoring developments related to Tibet and to support peaceful dialogue and respect for fundamental human rights.
Tibetan communities and supporters participating in the worldwide activities have emphasised that the gatherings will be conducted peacefully and with respect for public order, while seeking to amplify awareness and international engagement on issues affecting Tibetans.
